Blog of the Grateful Bear

ramblings of a freelance panentheist {"all things are in God, and God is in all things"} . . . musings on Emergent spirituality, powerlifting, LGBTQueer issues, contemplative prayer, mysticism, cats, music, healing, and more. I like my coffee and my existentialism dark-roasted.

Open Mind Blogger Award

Many thanks to friend and fellow blogger Heidi for nominating me for the Open Mind Blogger Award!

I’m honored to receive the award, and I’d like to reciprocate by nominating 5 blogs I think fit the criteria for open-mindedness in the category of Politics & Religion. Some of these blogs do a much better job of being open-minded than I do. (My post on May 23rd about “The Archbishop of Cowardice” did get a little cranky!)

Carl McColman: The Website of Unknowing

Jon Zuck: The Wild Things of God

Isaiah: Isaiah Knows Nothing

Meredith & Joe: Graceful Presence

Sadiq Alam: Inspirations and Creative Thoughts

According to the award’s creator, Justin, “This award is given to Blogs that demonstrate respect towards others, research and consideration of opposing views, free-flowing conversation with commenters, and an overall spirit of civility and openness. It is time we recognize such commendable behavior on the internet.” I’m not sure I always measure up to that description, but it’s an honor to be part of this initiative.

If I had known about this, and Heidi hadn't nominated you, I would have, Darrell! Thank you, too, for your nomination of Graceful Presence. It is an honor.

It is great that someone is recognising that kind of behaviour. I love blogs that feature "free-flowing conversation with commenters" and I think that's what makes blogging so unique and potentially transformative. Whenever I get a substantial comment I try to respond as fully as possible, preferably in a post itself.

You are SUCH a networker of good blogs! I've found so much good stuff through you already. :)

Thanks, Darrell.

I've become ambivalent about many "pass it on" memes, but this one really does have a great purpose, and I'm honored that you chose me.

Kudos and Congratulations. So beary happy to find your blog. Love your cats and your spiritual glow. Keep going with that flow.

Bear with me here, as I leave you with some cat quotes. Let me know what your furry ones think of them.

"The naming of cats is a difficult matter. It isn't just one of your holiday games. You may think at first I'm mad as a hatter, when I tell you a cat must have three different names." T.S. Eliot

"Thousands of years ago, cats were worshipped as gods. Cats have never forgotten this."

"Of all God's creatures, there is only one that cannot be made slave of the leash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve the man, but it would deteriorate the cat." Mark Twain

Thanks, Hamza.

Been a little quiet- both in mind and at my blog- as of late.

I am honored.

Yes - you are very open-minded. There is no prohibition on critique or even crankiness. You treat visitors with respect, and you honor insights from various traditions. Balm of Gilead to me - especially considering all that you have navigated - and with grace and kindness.
