Gay Pride Parade 2007

The Gay Pride Festival was held in Atlanta this past weekend. The anti-gay “evangelists” were out in force – I saw them at three different locations when I went down to Piedmont Park for the festival on Saturday. They were holding banners (some of them huge) with such slogans as:

JESUS THE RIGHTEOUS JUDGE CONDEMNS YOU TO HELL

ALL SODOMITES WILL BURN

GOD HATES HOMOSEX

REAL MEN MARRY WOMEN

– you get the idea.

On Sunday, a large group of Episcopalians and friends stood in front of my old parish, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, which is on the route of the Gay Pride Parade, and passed out water, colorful pinwheels, and hospitality to the marchers in the parade. It was lots of fun, as usual, and it gave us a front-row view of the parade going by. But more importantly, it provided the hundreds of people in the parade with an alternative to the hateful “Jesus” of the anti-gay protesters.

Here are some pictures. Here I am (in the middle, kneeling) before the parade began, with some friends from St. James (my church in Marietta):

One of several priests from St. Luke’s who were passing out water and pinwheels to the marchers:

What’s a gay pride parade without muscleboys and drag queens?

Episcopalians were in the parade itself, as well as at the water stations under rainbow umbrellas in front of St. Luke’s:

Hey, thanks for the picture. I got over 200 pics Sunday, but none of myself...until now.
A co worker was there Sunday, but did not remember the wings. She is into hang gliding, and does not think my wings would work for that.
I can't decide what to think about that hideous office building in the background ( I took a drug test there once, which does cloud my viewpoint) I am going to be optimistic and say that it makes me look better, even as I wish it was a parking lot.
I do have a partial picture of you in my post "Dogs and Kids". It is in front of St. Lukes. There is moer of you in the full image, but I cropped it to emphacize the two younguns.
The work verification for this is cqayfkuk. That is downright poetic.

I'm sure people appreciated you being light and love in contrast with the ignorance that was also present.

The parade looks like a lot of fun!

My DH says that in his reality, he will be able to pop in and out of the Christian heaven to visit friends and relatives who think they are limited to only being in there.

I wouldn't want to be anywhere that didn't have drag queens. How boring would that be?

Heya -- great pictures! I can't wait to go to the Gay Pride Parade myself when I'm in the US. I'll be coming down to New York by August this year for a two-year Master's degree, as you know.

The Episcopal Church sounds really great! I really can't wait to explore North America!
