Blog of the Grateful Bear
ramblings of a freelance panentheist {"all things are in God, and God is in all things"} . . . musings on Emergent spirituality, powerlifting, LGBTQueer issues, contemplative prayer, mysticism, cats, music, healing, and more. I like my coffee and my existentialism dark-roasted.

My friend Jon Zuck has posted a very different take on the movie Pan’s Labyrinth at his blog, The Wild Things of God (the entry is dated February 12th). I respect Jon’s opinion, even though, in this case, it differs greatly from my own.

Hey, Darrell,
Thanks for the link... Yeah, I liked it, and you may have helped me to by preparing me for it.
Thank you for the link. I enjoyed reading you friend's review. I have seen the movie and in fact went to see it the day it first came to Seattle. It has fast become my favorite new gnostic tale in modern media.
Pax,

I find it interesting that I had such a strong negative response to the violence in this movie because I've been on the other side: I've been criticized by friends for enjoying movies they found too violent (Fight Club, Pulp Fiction).
Marsha+, I'd love to hear more about your view of Pan's Labyrinth as a gnostic tale. I look forward to exploring your blogs! Interesting that you're ordained in an order whose patron is Mary Magdalene; she has become a very real presence in my life, and I'm feeling led to offer a workshop soon based on her Gospel.
